But do you know this is part of insignia of Sikhism a religion founded by Guru Nanak, 500 years ago? Sikhism believes that the entire universe is created from a single seed the God. Because of its belief in unity of universe it does not discriminate human being on the bases of religions, races, castes, creeds, colours etc. Sikhism believes this world is a sort of drama enacted by God and all living beings are thus actors and each individual is assigned a particular role. One performs according to the role assigned to him. Thus not much is in the control of actors. We should therefore not hate any body due to his role and rather have love and compassion for him. We should thus share our food with the needy (VAND CHHAKNA). Since the role assigned to an individual is by God Himself thus we should not a shirk to perform our duty. Hermitage (Sanyas) is thus prohibited (KIRRAT KARNA). To run this life, God has infused five elements namely; 1. Sex, 2. Anger, 3. Greed, 4. Attachment and 5. Pride. The five are together know as Haumen the ego. We should understand the principles underlying their presence. For instance sex is there so that reproduction keeps taking place and the phenomenon continues. We should therefore not allow the haumen to dominate on in character. Since the role or situation in which we are has been assigned to us by God himself there is no reason we should get upset or too happy. Since one day we will have to depart from this life we should keep in
mind our limitations. We must keep in mind that God is the ultimate cause of each action. On seeing this beautiful and diverse world we should realise that infinite God has numerous qualities or names. Believer of Sikhism (a Sikh) should therefore there fore keep in mind the qualities of God in mind and preferably keep saying or singing the names or his praises. In Sikhism this is called NAAM JAPNA. By reciting the naam or names one is liberated from the agonies and ecstasies of life and remains in CHARHDI KALA the high-spirited life. To sing praises the Sikh Gurus have composed Naam in the form of poetry and this is available in the form of a book in all Gurdwaras the Sikh churches. Every Sikh bows to the book called Guru Granth sahib. The complete insignia of Sikhism is ੴ digit 1 and ੳ the first letter of Punjabi alphabet and a line (kaar) is drawn on Ikk Onkar i.e One omnipresent.
