It is 8 years now that the movement for Kartarpur Corridor started. Indian
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's was the first statement on Kartarpur
Corridor when on 1-9-04 he visits Amritsar and before lacs of people a
demand for corridor was publicly made by Mr. P.S.Badal chief of Shromani
Akali Dal. The PM then said that he would look into that matter.
But nothing came out after he reached Delhi. It was on
27-6-08 that Indian Foreign Minister Sh. Pranab Kumar Mukerjee visited the
Corridor site and stated that the Govt of India will consider this demand
and take up the issue with Pakistan Govt and before that a feasibility
study would be got conducted.
Nothing came out from the FM's visit also. But on
15-10-08 the Punjab's Chief Secretary Mr. Ramesh Inder Singh visited the
corridor site and while addressing press right at Dera Baba Nanak stated
that the Govt of Punjab has got the feasibility study conducted and sent
to Govt of India. Again the ball is in Delhi's court. Let us see.
