best.

documents. The fonts included here have a different key map that is based on
the Ramington Gurmukhi type-writer. The fonts based on this key map are
popular in India. These fonts and the Gurmukhi documents prepared in these
fonts are included here as service to those who are used to the Ramington
type-writer key map.
40. “TEST_FON”
folder
Contains documents (one MS Word 6.0 and an
other self opening document) to test fonts required to use this version of
Gurbani CD.
41. “XTRA__” folder
Contains different items: (1) MS Word
document template (“Normal.dot” inside the Macros_ folder) with imbedded
macros for use with Microsoft Word. To install the macros, open the
template file with MS Word then use organizer command from inside Macros
command (under “Tools” menu). (2) a text sort program (inside sort folder)
which works under Windows 95 DOS and sorts lines of text according to the
Gurmukhi alphabet when written with GurbaniLipi or other fonts with a
similar key map. Before sorting, the files should be saved in the text
format and may be moved to the “SORT” folder for the sake of simplifying the
command sequence while sorting. The sequence of DOS command for sorting is:
Sort ToBeSortedFileName SortedFileName. With this program up to a maximum
2000 lines of text can be sorted at one time. For any technical questions
about the use of these programs you may contact the author: Manjit Singh
Sahota, 2634 Glencotswold Court, San Jose, CA 95148. Phone: (408) 238-9719.
42. “XTRAFONT” folder
Contains many Gurmukhi fonts (old and new)
that are not essential for use of this version of Gurbani CD, but can
otherwise be useful.
NOTES:
1. Most of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib documents
in Gurmukhi (& Devanagari) are optimized to do word searches of text from
Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Each word in these documents is separated with a
space character on either of its sides.
2. The documents in Devanagari are prepared with
a customized Devanagari font. It is not possible to convert Gurmukhi
documents to Devanagari just by changing the font of the document. However,
it is achievable. A macro for this purpose is included on the Gurbani CD.
3. “Acrobat Reader” program (each for Windows 95
and Windows 3.1) and files for use with this program are also provided on
this version of the Gurbani CD. Run appropriate “setup.exe” to install the
Acrobat Reader program before attempting to use files inside “AcroFile”
folder. Acrobat files do allow word searches and printing.
Selected text can also be copied and pasted in to other
documents. Some of these documents have hypertext links. Clicking on the
text in the List of Contents (tatkra) of such documents will automatically
scroll to the appropriate part of the document. These documents probably
will satisfy the needs of most of the Gurbani CD users. Acrobat files
provide the best appearance on the computer monitor.
5. The documents of Siri Guru Granth Sahib have
been created in such a way that on most commonly used computer systems
correct number of pages will be displayed (1430 in all). However, on some
computers depending upon the printer set-up and the resolution of the
monitor, the displayed number of pages may be more than the actual. This
problem can be easily fixed by reducing the left & right margins of the
documents. In rare instances, it may also require a slight adjustment of
paragraph indentation/margins of some headline paragraphs.
