Kartarpur Corridor issue being taken up with
Pak Govt
–Foreign Secretary
The Jagg Bani Punjabi daily dated Jan 24, 2008 has
reported quoting Avtar Singh Makkarh President SGPC
that the Govt of India is all set to take up the
Kartarpur sahib Corridor issue with the Pakistan Govt.
It is reported that the president met Mr. Shankar
Krishna Menon, Secretary Ministry of External Affairs
in connection with the Turban in France issue and Mr.
Menon informed the SGPC head of this development.

My view is that Govt of India is in a fix and in a
very embarrassing position keeping in view the
Pakistan Govt adopting Anand Marriage Act for Sikhs
which has been denied to Indian Sikhs right from 1947
and the Sikhs have to get themselves as Hindus while
getting their marriages registered.
The Sikhs had then protested for their being clubbed
as Hindu under the Indian Constitution at article 25
but Nehru the then Prime Minister had reminded the
Sikhs that the circumstances now stood changed and
they will have to live as Hindus in India. Once when
Sikhs were protesting and shouting slogan ‘Punjabi
Suba Zindabad’ Nehru remarked, “Go to your Punjabi
Suba, what you fools are doing here.”
